Directed by Danielle Miller & Julia Thorndike
This locally produced and award-winning feature length documentary examines the world of women’s professional softball through the lens of one special team, the Akron Racers, and their general manger, Joey Arrietta. Whether faced by an opposing team or the threat of retirement forced upon them far too soon, the Racers possess the same passion exhibited throughout the league’s history. They are committed to the sport they love and willing to sacrifice the spoils of a comfortable life in order to achieve glory on the field.

Forest City Brewery
2135 Columbus Road, Cleveland, Ohio
The wild times of the 1970s and 80s Rock and Roll landmark Swingos Celebrity Inn of Cleveland, Ohio is chronicled in this documentary from its genesis in 1967 to its closing in 1985. Interviews with the original owner, rock stars like Michael Stanley and Southside Johnny, and Cleveland heroes like Big Chuck and Lil’ Jon work together to chronicle the story of a restaurant and hotel that grew into a national sensation in downtown Cleveland at the same time as the city was falling to pieces. The river was burning, the theaters were closing, and the crime rate was climbing all while the WMMS radio station, rock critic Jane Scott, Scene Magazine, the Agora Music Hall, and Swingos created a burgeoning music scene that became the compass for Rock and Roll in the U.S.

Preceded by Nick Cavalier’s short Gotta Groove Records, a “hybrid procedural documentary on how vinyl records are made and the underdog story of Gotta Groove’s Vince and Matt and all that they have built on a house of wax in a rustbelt city constructed with grit through their passion for music and manufacturing.”
In 2012, musician/director Rob Montague set out to answer the question, “Why do I play music?” Interviewing musicians from varying levels of the business and following alt/rock band, Grizfolk; independent singer/songwriter, David Ramirez; and doom metal favorites, The Sword across two continents. The result is the feature length documentary, Long Way To The Top. Three years in the making, Long Way to the Top is a story about the trials and tribulations of working musicians, with heavy emphasis of life on the road. From unexpected tour line-ups, to unforgiving weather, the undying love of their fans, to their unsympathetic landlords; Long Way to the Top presents an uncompromising, behind-the-scenes glimpse of what it is really like being a career musician in our modern era.
Produced by Late Morning Films, Long Way to the Top features interviews from members of Grizfolk, The Sword, David Ramirez, Taking Back Sunday, The Big Boys, Nine Inch Nails, Weezer, Crosses, Def Leppard, Limp Bizkit, Hal Sparks, Filmstrip, Meiko and more. Music by David Ramirez, Grizfolk, and Herzog.
Long Way to the Top has screened at the 39th Annual Cleveland International Film Festival, Ink’s Middle of the Map Fest, Skyline Indie Film Festival, NewFilmmakers LA (Los Angeles Premiere and nominated for Best Documentary of 2015) and won Best Rock Documentary at the Albuquerque Film Festival.
